Did you know... St Valentine is the patron saint of lovers and Valentine's Day on the 14th February every year celebrates the martyrdom of St Valentine who was a Roman Christian Priest who refused to renounce his faith. Prior to his execution in 269AD he left a note to his friend the jailer's daughter signed "From your Valentine". St Valentine was honoured when Pope Gelasius set aside 14th February as St Valentines Day, which is now celebrated by the exchange of love messages (and gifts!). These love tokens are traditionally sent anonymously. |
